Biggest lesson from sport

Chess has taught me a lot over the years. The most significant of those lessons is that focus should be on the game and not the glory. Complete dedication on the game will ensure glory.

Practices for building mental stamina

I try to keep my mind as uncluttered as possible. If something bothers you, verbalise it or prioritise it.

Lessons from the lows

Sport always involves a lot of ups and downs. It is important to know that the biggest low is never the end. In fact is just a place to start afresh.

The winning formula

Do what you always do, but doing it better is the key. I just keep thinking of how to keep getting better. I don’t think of what glass ceilings I have broken or what my place in history should be. I just think if by doing it a certain way, can I make it better than the previous time. Sometimes your worst rivals will shed more light on your problem than you can as they are able to draw out your mediocrity.

Message to youngsters

Sport is always associated with the joy of winning and the heartbreak of loss. It is very important to enjoy the journey because the journey is the biggest teacher.
