Rohan Parashuram Kanawade is a self-made filmmaker whose journey from a one-room home in a Mumbai slum to the global stage is as compelling as the stories he tells. Raised by a chauffeur father and a homemaker mother, Rohan initially trained in interior design before discovering his passion for cinema. An alum of the prestigious 11th Venice Biennale College Cinema, his work has been celebrated at film festivals around the world.

In 2019, his short film U for Usha won the Satyajit Ray Short Film Award at the London Indian Film Festival and is currently streaming on BFI Player. His debut feature Sabar Bonda (Cactus Pears) made history in 2025 by becoming the first Indian fiction film to win the Grand Jury Prize: Dramatic at the Sundance Film Festival.
