Winner of 5 President of India awards, 4 Limca world records, 3 international awards, 68 national and state medals, and 23 international medals, Dr Deepa Malik was India’s first-ever female Paralympic medallist. Having braved paralysis below the chest for the last 25 years has not stopped Deepa from accomplishing incredible feats including being India’s first paraplegic woman biker, swimmer, and rally-ist.
Deepa is a member of PM Modi’s High-Level Committee for celebrating 75 years of India’s independence. She has also served as a citizen ambassador to New Zealand, appointed as Sir Edmund Hillary PM’s Fellow by Hon Jacinda Ardern. She served as the first woman President of the Paralympic Committee of India (2020-2024).
Dr Deepa Malik is the South Asian Region Representative of the Asian Paralympic Committee. Under her leadership, the Indian team has won the highest number of medals in history at the Tokyo Paralympics, for which Dr Malik was conferred the ASIAN ORDER 2022, the highest honour among all Asian countries participating in para-sports. She has also spearheaded Team India to the highest-ever historic tally of 111 medals at the Asian Para Games 2023.
Dr Malik is a social activist working tirelessly to empower and enable underprivileged persons with disabilities through her foundation Wheeling Happiness. She is a member of the Advisory Committee of The Economic Times India Leadership Council’s Diversity & Inclusion Community.
