At 17 years, Deeya was the youngest in the world to have completed the grueling cross-country skiing expedition across the Greenland Icecap which entailed skiing over 550 kms of ice, camping out for 19 days and facing temperatures going down to –40 degrees centigrade. Deeya Suzannah Bajaj is an adventurer, mountaineer and explorer who motivates and fires up her audiences with her inspiring story.
In her talk ‘The Spirit of Adventure’, she details the rigors of her 21-day skiing expedition across the Greenland icecap, facing extreme weather conditions and raising the funds to start a wing for girls at a children’s home in Haridwar. The importance of being mentally strong; awareness for the cause of the girl child; and environmental sensitivity are topics she touches upon while narrating her journey.
Deeya is a PADI-certified rescue diver, has completed an advance course in mountaineering from the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi and is a black belt in Taekwondo. Deeya has successfully completed several mountaineering expeditions including summiting Mt. Elbrus (5642 meters, highest peak in Russia), DKD2 (5670 meters, India) and Kang Yatse II (6200 meters, India). At the age of 14 years, she participated in a 2-week-long Indo-US sea kayaking expedition along the Greenland Coast.
Deeya was felicitated with the TIE Aspire Young Achievers Award ‘in appreciation of unrivalled contributions as a role model for the Youth of India’ and the ‘Meri Dilli Award’ in the category of Adventure sports. She was also given the title of ‘Adventurer of the Year’ by the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India in 2012.
Most recently, Deeya scaled the Mt Everest with her father Ajeet Bajaj in May 2018, becoming the first Indian father-daughter duo to accomplish this major feat. Their speaking sessions leave the audience super charged and motivated to take on any challenge.
